JUNE EDIT / 2018
June started with some gloomy (but still warm) weather, but ended in the hottest June we’ve had for years. Even up north, where we are, it reached 30 degrees on the last week before July. I’m not a fan of the warm weather, but I’m trying to embrace it before I start moaning about how cold it is in the autumn and winter. I just don’t like being sweaty!
At the end of every month, I’ve decided to create my monthly Edits – a mixture of product favourites, other things I’ve been loving, a life update and any other bits and pieces I want to include. It’ll be a great way to summarise my month and something interesting to look back on in the future. Links are affiliates.
I bought quite a bit of makeup this month for videos and for myself despite being completely broke. One month I will learn how to save, but June was not that month. As the brand Seventeen is being discontinued, I picked up a foundation and a powder for under £2 each, which I am loving. I’m actually disappointed they’re not making the products anymore, because I really like them. But something that isn’t discontinuing (I hope) is the Essence Make Me Brow gel and Luminous Matte bronzer. I tried them in a ‘testing’ video and fell in love. Also in a video, I reviewed the I Heart Revolution Violet Chocolate palette which has so many beautiful pops of purple, and the Soph x Revolution Extra Spice collection, which is so pretty and summery. Finally, the Miss Sporty Really Me stick foundation is an unlikely favourite, but it has been my go-to for when I’m too lazy to put on ‘proper’ makeup.
I read another new book (that’s 11 this year and counting…) called Before I Go To Sleep, which is about a woman with amnesia. I enjoyed it a lot, and I didn’t realise that it had been made into a film starring Colin Firth! I’m looking forward to watching it to see how close they stuck to the book plot.
This should really be in beauty favourites but I think perfume is a bit iffy in that it’s not really beauty as you can’t see it on your skin, but it’s a beauty product. Anyway, I’m including it in my lifestyle faves. I got 4 mini Marc Jacobs Daisy perfumes which, as well as being adorable, smell delicious. They don’t have spritzers so are a little difficult to apply, but the smell is worth the few seconds of awkwardness.
Last month I ended my life update with the hope that I could say my beauty room is completely finished. Well… it is! Nearly. By the time you read this, there will be one little thing to do (sort out the doors, which actually isn’t a little thing. It’s quite a big thing). Carpet is fitted, walls are wallpapered and painted, curtains are up, skirting boards are glued and painted, furniture is moved. I will be filming a ‘Beauty Room Tour’ at the beginning of July, so make sure you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel if you want to see that. I got to go to IKEA and shop to my heart’s content in mid-June, which made me very happy.
I’ve started posting content on IGTV – I’ve decided to put cut-down versions of my YouTube videos up there, as well as daily vlogs, hauls, swatches and makeup looks. I’m not sure if it’ll take off or not as a video platform, but I thought I’d get in there early so I can be one of the first if it does.
