I HEART REVOLUTION CHOCOLATE PALETTES – BEST TO WORST

I HEART REVOLUTION CHOCOLATE PALETTES – BEST TO WORST

I have spent the last 2 months trying out every single chocolate palette from I Heart Revolution. I review a lot of them for YouTube (check out this playlist if you don’t believe me) and I get a fair few questions about which ones are my favourites and which ones are fails. So, being the generous, hardworking individual that I am, I’ve created a point-scoring system and ranked all of the range from best to worst. For a more in-depth list, see the video at the end of the post!

As a disclaimer, there are at least 4 new ones coming – they are currently only in the two Christmas giftsets (here and here), so if they are released separately I will buy and review them and slot them into the list. Links are affiliated!

If you want to buy any of these palettes, you can find them on Superdrug’s site, RevolutionBeauty.com, Revolution’s US site and at ULTA and Superdrug. In the US, these palettes are just part of Revolution’s lineup, as I Heart Revolution doesn’t exist over there.

THE POINT SYSTEM

Each palette got a rank out of 10 for four different categories: Pigmentation, Blendability, Colour Selection and People’s Choice. For the People’s Choice category, I asked my subscribers to vote for their favourite palette from the range. I divided the votes by 10 and rounded up/down until it was a whole number. For example, one of the palettes got 21 votes, so I rounded that to 2 points. I chose the pigmentation score from how saturated the colour was when on the eyes, blendability from how easily and nicely the shadows blended out. Colour selection is definitely more of a personal preference obviously, but it’s an important part of choosing an eyeshadow palette!

THE LIST

#24: PINK FIZZ  – 3 points

Pigmentation: 1/10
Blendability: 1/10
Colour Selection: 1/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

This is in last place because I think it’s really, really bad. There is only 3 matte shades in the entire palette, which didn’t have much pigment at all. It took a long time to build up the colour and didn’t blend nicely either. The shimmers weren’t reflective or pigmented either; the blue colour I put on the lower lashline needed at least 3 layers to be visible.

#23: GOLDEN BAR – 9 points

Pigmentation: 7/10
Blendability: 0/10
Colour Selection: 2/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

I don’t actually own this palette – it’s the only one I don’t have! I’ve been in-store to swatch it, and watched reviews so I could score it, but I just can’t bring myself to buy it as it’s 100% shimmer, not one matte. That’s why it has a 2 for colour and 0 for blending. I need some mattes, and you don’t blend shimmers!

#22: 24K GOLD – 11 points

Pigmentation: 4/10
Blendability: 2/10
Colour Selection: 4/10
People’s Choice: 1/10

This palette (unpleasently) surprised me. It got around 10 votes for best palette, so I was expecting it to be good. I was mistaken. I used the rose gold and deeper rose tones on the crease, then the brown and black on the outer corner. The crease shades weren’t pigmented at all and blending awfully. The brown and black were okay, but nothing special. The shimmers were okay, but the whole palette wasn’t special.

#21: DEATH BY CHOCOLATE – 14 points

Pigmentation: 6/10
Blendability: 3/10
Colour Selection: 5/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

The mattes need a lot of work with this palette; they were tricky to blend and needed building up. They also muddied together when I used the greys and browns in the crease. The shimmers were nice, and the colour selection isn’t bad (it’s just not entirely my cup of tea), but the formula lets it down.

#20: CHOCOLATE VICE – 15 points

Pigmentation: 5/10
Blendability: 4/10
Colour Selection: 5/10
People’s Choice: 1/10

This palette is pretty standard in terms of colour selection; there’s the warmer shades that were popular a couple of years ago, paired with some neutrals. I used to love this palette, but I’m over it now. The mattes needed a lot of building up to get the pigment I like and sheered out when I blended them. The shimmers are quite subtle, too. I did a simple pink and gold eye look for this palette.

#19: PEACHES & CHOCOLATE – 15 points

Pigmentation: 5/10
Blendability: 5/10
Colour Selection: 5/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

This is a dupe of the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette! The browns are a little tricky to blend, and also aren’t the best pigmentation in the world, but it was just ever-so-slightly better than the Vice palette, despite having the same amount of points. It did still muddy together a little and the shimmers aren’t as reflective as I like. I used the pink, warm brown and dark brown in the crease and outer corner, then the shimmery pink and light gold on the lid.

#18: CHOCOLATE LOVE – 16 points

Pigmentation: 6/10
Blendability: 4/10
Colour Selection: 6/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

This is a dupe of the Too Faced Bon Bons palette! I quite liked the colours in here; the blue shimmer is especially pretty but the pink isn’t something I’d usually use. I used that blue on the lid and put the orange-brown on the outer corner, but I did find the mattes tricky to blend in the crease.

#17: MINI ROSE GOLD – 18 points

Pigmentation: 6/10
Blendability: 5/10
Colour Selection: 7/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

These smaller palettes are cute and great for travel, but my least favourite out of the four is the Mini Rose Gold, mostly because the main colours in the palette (the deeper pinks) weren’t very pigmented and didn’t blend nicely at all. I did attempt a halo eye with the mustard shade in the crease and the pinks on the lid, with the gold as the spotlight.

#16: MINI MINT CHOC – 20 points

Pigmentation: 8/10
Blendability: 6/10
Colour Selection: 6/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

This mini is another okay palette, except the teal shade lets it down! I don’t get on with teal, but the other shades are nice. The colours are actually exactly the same as the Mini Nudes palette (except the teal) which annoys and confuses me a bit. I did manage to muddy the colours together a bit too much, but that was probably me. I did a teal and orange eye look – simple and not very good.

#15: MINI CHOC ORANGE – 20 points

Pigmentation: 7/10
Blendability: 7/10
Colour Selection: 6/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

I think the shades in this palette are quite samey, and therefore you can’t get too many looks out of it, but you could say the same with the other mini palettes, too. There’s nothing really ‘wrong’ with the palette, it blends okay, the shimmers are okay, but again, nothing special and not much variety. With this palette I used most of the shades to do an orangey red look with gold.

#14: GALACTIC – 21 points

Pigmentation: 8/10
Blendability: 7/10
Colour Selection: 6/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

This is one of the newer palettes, so I was expecting it to be higher on the list, but it wasn’t anything exciting to me. I’m not sure I enjoy the marble shades (I’d like a normal matte, to be honest) and they could have done a lot more with the colours with the galactic theme – there wasn’t even a silver! The blend and pigment is good, but I’m not super in love with this one. For the eye look I did a cut crease with brown and purple.

#13: MACAROONS – 22 points

Pigmentation: 9/10
Blendability: 5/10
Colour Selection: 8/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

This is a good palette, but the blend lets it down! There are only 4 mattes and they are very similar shades, so they didn’t work to build definition or depth. I would have loved some pastel matte shades to suit the theme and to add some variety. I did enjoy the eye look – I used the blues on the lid and browns on the crease and outer corner.

#12: MINI NUDES – 23 points

Pigmentation: 9/10
Blendability: 8/10
Colour Selection: 6/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

This mini is a little ahead of the other minis because it somehow seemed to work better than the others, even though it’s the same formula. The colour selection is a lower number due to the similarities with the Mini Mint Choc palette. For this eye look I just did some gold glitter on the lid, orange on the crease and brown in the outer corner for an everyday look.

#11: NAKED CHOCOLATE – 23 points

Pigmentation: 6/10
Blendability: 8/10
Colour Selection: 7/10
People’s Choice: 2/10

Although this had lower points for the pigmentation and blend than the previous entry, this pulls just ahead due to the fact the People voted 19 times for it and because it’s my favourite everyday palette! it may not be the best palette in the world, but I really enjoy the taupe and rosey shades. I accidentally put a shimmery colour through the crease and added some taupey shades. The shimmers aren’t very reflective but are still pretty.

#10: CHOCOLATE ELIXIR – 23 points

Pigmentation: 8/10
Blendability: 8/10
Colour Selection: 6/10
People’s Choice: 1/10

Yet another palette with 23 points, but this one is ahead as the formula is better. This is a dupe of the ABH Modern Renaissance palette, which isn’t my favourite shade range in the world, but you can’t deny that the blend and pigment is good. It’s a really nicely performing palette. For the eye look I did a gold and brown half cut crease and put the magenta shades on the lower lashline.

#9: COTTON CANDY – 24 points

Pigmentation: 9/10
Blendability: 7/10
Colour Selection: 8/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

This palette is another new one with not enough mattes. The mattes that they do have are not deep enough to create anything with depth, and again are quite similar to each other. I think some bright candy colours would have been fun, like a lilac, violet and fuchsia. The shimmers are beautiful and reflective, almost metallic-looking. For this eye look I did another halo eye with the browns and pinks.

#8: SALTED CARAMEL – 24 points

Pigmentation: 8/10
Blendability: 8/10

People’s Choice: 1/10

This palette is a dupe of the Too Faced Semi-Sweet palette. I enjoy the mix of cool shades and warm in here, and there is a good amount of mattes. It’s an easy everyday palette which blends nicely and has lovely pigment. I used the grey and taupe on the crease and turquoise on the lid.

#7: I HEART CHOCOLATE – 24 points

Pigmentation: 9/10
Blendability: 8/10
Colour Selection: 7/10
People’s Choice: 0/10

This is such a classic palette; a dupe of the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. Although there is slightly more shimmers than I personally like, I can’t not love this palette for what it is. It’s a great everyday palette that you can glam up easily. The mattes blend beautifully and the shimmers and soft and pigmented too. For this eye look I used the dark green shimmer on the lid, with the browns elsewhere and gold on the inner corner.

#6: MINT CHOCOLATE – 25 points

Pigmentation: 8/10
Blendability: 7/10
Colour Selection: 9/10
People’s Choice: 1/10

There’s a beautiful colour range in this palette; you can take it from autumn to christmas, with the greens and reds. I love that it feels ‘different’ to the other palettes, in a good way. The dark green matte needs building up and is a little trickier to blend but the rest of the shades are beautiful and easy. This is one of, if not the favourite eye look from all of these palettes. I used the mustard, greens, gold shimmer and red.

#5: CHOCOLATE ORANGE – 26 points

Pigmentation: 8/10
Blendability: 8/10
Colour Selection: 8/10
People’s Choice: 2/10

This isn’t a palette I reach for that often, so I’m a little surprised it got so high up on the list, but I can’t deny there’s nothing really wrong with this palette, I’m just a little bit ‘over’ the orange. The blending and pigmentation is brilliant, and there’s a nice range of colours to choose from. In this eye look I used the rose shades in the crease, reddy pink on the outer corner and gold on the lid.

#4: ROSE GOLD – 26 points

Pigmentation: 7/10
Blendability: 8/10
Colour Selection: 9/10
People’s Choice: 2/10

This is a Huda Beauty Rose Gold Limited Edition dupe! That palette is no longer made, so you don’t have to miss out if you get the Rose Gold from I Heart Revolution. The shimmers are gorgeously metallic, the mattes are lovely and I love the colour story. It’s an excellent palette and pulls ahead of the Chocolate Orange because I use it so much more. For this eye look I used the pinks and gold!

#3: LEMON DRIZZLE – 26 points

Pigmentation: 9/10
Blendability: 8/10
Colour Selection: 8/10
People’s Choice: 1/10

This is a beautiful autumnal/summery palette, perfect for September. It has vibrant yellows and oranges and golds, all of which perform amazingly. It has the on-trend sunset colours without being boring (these are much brighter than we’ve seen previously) and the pigmentation and blendability are near-perfect. For this eye look I used the yellow on the crease, brown on the outer corner and gold on the lid.

#2: NUDES – 27 points

Pigmentation: 8/10
Blendability: 8/10
Colour Selection: 9/10
People’s Choice: 2/10

nudes - i heart revolution chocolate palettes best to worst

This is another classic palette that suits so many people. There are pinks, nudes and neutrals that never get old and the formula is beautiful as well. It’s a great everyday palette that you can make glam with a little bit of purple and a darker lipstick. For this eye look I used the pinks and browns with a gold on the lid for a super simple, daytime look.

#1: VIOLET CHOCOLATE – 31 points

Pigmentation: 10/10
Blendability: 9/10
Colour Selection: 9/10
People’s Choice: 3/10

i heart revolution chocolate palettes violet chocolate swatches

I’m not surprised that our winner is the violet palette. It stands out as being the most on-trend, the best quality and is practically perfect in every way. There’s so many purple tones (not just a couple of pops of colour surrounded by neutrals) and it’s on-trend – think about all the new palettes with purples! This is a fun, pretty, great quality palette and I love using it. For this look I did a cute flower half cut crease using two purple shades.
