Lighthearted Beauty and Lifestyle... Honestly.

Bleary-eyed, you lift your head from the soft pillow, untangle your limbs from the warm duvet and pull yourself away from the comfort of your mattress and hit the alarm clock. It’s way too early to be awake, yet here you are – awake, but not quite bushy-tailed – ready for the day ahead.

Despite being mentally awake, your eyes may tell a different story. Dark circles and droppy lids are the bane of your morning, and no amount of caffeine can help your face perk up. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Maybe you’re hungover, or maybe you just haven’t being getting enough sleep. Whatever the reason, this post is here to help.

Step One: Skincare

Cleanse, tone, moisturise and use eye cream to keep your skin in tip-top condition. You can even get eye drops specicially for tired eyes from pharmacies and even supermarkets, so you can use these to help brighten them ‘from the inside’. I also find using a cooling eye energiser like this one from Polaar helps to de-puff undereyes and help them feel and look more awake.

Step Two: Colour Corrector + Concealer

If you have dark circles under your eyes, you can use a colour correcting concealer (like this one from Revolution) to cancel the colour out. I’ll have a guide going up on the blog soon, but there’s plenty of help on other blogs and youtube channels if you need help choosing the right colour. You’ll be surprised how much difference this makes! After you’ve used your colour correcting concealer and foundation, applying a lighter shade of normal concealer under your eyes will brighten them and help you look more awake.

Step Three: Eyeshadow

If your eyes are still looking a bit dark, try wearing a light eye colour on the lid and taking a light matte shade higher up in the crease to lift the eye. Personally, a warm gold suits me as it’s opposite to the blue of my eyes. I’ll also be doing a post on how you can choose an eyeshadow that suits your eye colour soon!

Step Four: Brows + Lashes

Curling your lashes can help a huge amount, despite being a quick step people often skip. If your lashes are curled, it will automatically lift your eyes and you’ll appear instantly more awake. Brows are slightly less important but can still make a difference – keep them plucked with a high arch and it’ll lift everything even more.

Here’s my before and after of the steps above! It’s amazing how a routine so simple can make such a difference.
