Lighthearted Beauty and Lifestyle... Honestly.

I do Beauty Favourites posts every month and so I thought it might be interesting to look back on the Faves from a whole year ago and see how many products are still my favourites, and how many… well, aren’t. These are the products from September, October and November 2016! If you enjoy this type of post, let me know and I’ll do another for December and onwards.

September 2016

LimeCrime Velvetines Liquid Lipstick in Riot – this lipstick was my obsession for quite a while. I still love the colour so much, but this lipstick was actually fake and if you’ve read my post on Dupes vs Fakes you’ll know I don’t use or buy fakes. I got this lipstick when I was very, very new to makeup and hadn’t researched the danger of fake makeup so obviously I don’t use this anymore and haven’t done in a year. I still have it for display purposes though!

Rose Gold Contour Brush – This was an AliExpress purchase and it’s still sitting in my brush collection now. I don’t use it often (I actually found it a little large for contouring) but I use it occasionally for baking under my eyes and blush.

NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks – I had the shades Ruffle Trim and Push Up and these were my first nude lipsticks. I did enjoy the colours  but I found that they wouldn’t stay in place and would go dry and bunched-up on my lips after eating and drinking. They didn’t look nice whatsoever and felt uncomfortable to wear. I threw them away a couple of months ago and haven’t worn them since Christmas time.

October 2016

L’Oreal Whitening Toner – I loved this toner so much for so long! It lasted ages as well; I still have over half a bottle left. However, I started getting LookFantastic boxes in December which contains Toners every now and then so I’ve been using those instead of the L’Oreal one. If it still smells good when I’ve run out of others, I’ll definitely go back to it.

Black & Gold Buffing Brush – This is another AliExpress brush which is still in my brush collection but doesn’t get used much. It’s a great brush for powder and foundations (I like to press powder into my skin with it) but I have a lot of brushes now that get used more often.

Yurily Contour Kit – I had actually forgotten about this highlight-contour duo until I re-watched my Favourites video! I used this palette to death for a couple of months after I first got it from eBay but again, it’s one of those products that get left behind once another similar one gets bought. Maybe I’ll take it out and use it again after I’ve written this post. I remember the contour being more of a bronzer and the highlight being quite subtle, so maybe it’ll be a good everyday duo.

Exposed Auto Eyebrow Pencil in Chocolate Brown – This was yet another product that got left behind, but I used this pencil in a video where I tested out the L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara and I got so many compliments about my brows! I still really like it and it matches with my hair quite well, so definitely still a favourite, just a less-used one.

November 2016

Primark Lipliners – The first shade I got was ‘Brown’, which isn’t the most exciting colour but I fell in love with them as soon as I tried them. I still love them just as much and I have quite a few of them now! They’re my absolute holy grail lipliners.

Primark Velvet Matte Lip Crayons – Another holy grail lip product! The one I got first was Hustle, which is a gorgeous browny-pink and was perfect for the season. They dry down beautifully and last really well. I now have pretty much every single shade.

W7 Shade & Swap – This is a dupe of the Shadow Switch and is a sponge in a pot that cleans off the excess powder from your brushes. It’s a really handy thing to have when you’re doing an eye look with only a couple of brushes, but as I’ve mentioned previously – I have so many brushes now that I don’t really need to limit my brush usage and therefore don’t use it much.

W7 Lip Legend Matte Topcoat – I’d completely forgotten about this product! This is a lipbalm-looking stick that you put on top of lipsticks to make them look matte. It doesn’t stop them from transferring but does reduce the shine a lot so if you’re not a satin-finish gal, then this would be handy. I don’t mind a satin finish anymore so it doesn’t get used.

Primark High Definition Mascara – I raved about this mascara for. so. long. And now I hate it. It made my lashes really black and long, but clumped so badly and is such a thick formula that it felt really heavy to apply. I have a spare tube of it in my drawer that goes unused because I hate it so much.

I♥Makeup U R The Best Thing Palette – This was the first I♥Makeup product I bought, which gives me semi-nostalgia feels. I loved this palette but found that I couldn’t create that many looks from it. I decluttered the palette in my last big Declutter video!

I♥Makeup Chocolate Bar Palette – The beginning of my obsession with the Chocolate bar range! I was so impressed with this that I went out and bought pretty much all of them (I think I’m missing 3 out of the 12 released). Definitely still a favourite and the original has a special place in my heart.

If you’d like to see me talk about these (plus some extras), check out the video below and don’t forget to subscribe! I’d be so interested to hear about what products you used to love that you don’t love quite as much now, or even products that have stood the test of time and are still your favourite products.

  • This is such a good idea to see if your old favourites are ones you still go for. I feel the same way a lot of the time, as I get older and better with makeup I don’t usually go for the things I used to love when I was just getting into it. I guess my style and opinions are always changing. It’s fun to look back on things though, I always get nostalgia when I use the products I used to use when I first started doing makeup.
